What mental health apps actually cost (2026)

Twelve small grey blocks in a row beside one shorter blue bar

On the UK App Store in October 2026, the paid anxiety, mood and wellbeing apps we checked charge £6.99 to £9.99 a month, or £45.99 to £69.99 a year. Pay monthly for twelve months and you spend £83.88 to £119.88, so the annual plan works out 42% to 58% cheaper. Two apps on the list cost nothing inside the app at all, and three list several prices without saying which one is monthly and which is annual.

    Why this page exists

Search "how much does Headspace cost" and you mostly get ranges, US dollar prices, or "around £10 a month". Almost nobody writes down the number that matters if you pay monthly: what that adds up to over a year. So below is one table, read from each app's UK App Store listing on 19 October 2026, with the sums done in the open.

Every app here is free to download. What changes is what you pay once you want the full thing.

    The table

UK prices from each app's App Store listing, checked 19 October 2026. "Monthly plan over a year" is the monthly price times 12. "Annual saving" is that figure minus the annual price. Where a listing does not say which price belongs to which plan, we used the developer's own pricing page, rechecked on 24 October 2026, and say in each entry below where a price came from.

The free tier column is deliberately one phrase. What each free version actually lets you do, and where the paywall falls, is a separate question with its own article.

    Notes on each row

Bearable. Bearable publishes US prices only: $6.99 a month or $34.99 a year, which is $83.88 a year on monthly. It also says it "frequently" discounts the annual plan to $18.99, and it runs a sponsorship scheme for people who cannot afford a subscription. The UK listing shows ten unlabelled prices under names like "Bearable premium", from £4.49 to £49.99, and none of them is the dollar figure in pounds, so we could not match a UK price to a plan. The row is in dollars for that reason.

Breathwrk. Now owned by Peloton. The UK listing labels a monthly plan at £9.00 and shows a separate £49.00 entry named "Breathwrk Pro - $49.00". Breathwrk's site prices the annual plan at $4.08 a month and the monthly at $9.00, both with a 7 day free trial. Its listing says Peloton All Access, Guide and App+ members get it free.

Calm. Calm's own UK plans page offers a 7 day free trial, then £49.99 billed annually, or Calm for Life at £499.99 once. Calm does not publish a monthly price. Its help centre says every in-app free trial defaults to the annual plan, and that to buy monthly in the app you have to start the trial, cancel it straight away, and wait for it to run out before the monthly option appears. On the web, the monthly and quarterly plans only show at the end of a sign-up questionnaire. Calm also says the price in the app can differ from the website's. The UK listing shows ten entries, every one named "Calm Premium", from £13.49 to £49.99, so it does not settle the monthly price either.

Conquer Fear. Ours. Standard is £9.99 a month or £49.99 a year. There is also a monthly Accountability tier, with a booked video call every two weeks with a real person, at a founding price of £49.99 a month. That is why the listing shows two entries under the same "Premium + Coaching" name: £49.99 is the founding price and £149.99 is the standard price that replaces it. The 7 day free trial is on the annual plan only; the monthly plan has no trial.

Dare. Monthly £9.99, annual £59.99. The listing also shows a £8.99 subscription, a £58.99 annual and a "Promotion" at £59.99, plus two one-off audio packs at £17.99 each.

Finch. Finch's own pricing page gives $9.99 a month and $69.99 a year, in US dollars only. The UK listing shows ten entries all named "Finch Plus", from £4.99 to £69.99, and both £9.99 and £69.99 are among them, so we have used those. The cheaper entries are likely the discounts Finch offers in the app; the listing does not say. The core app is free.

Headspace. The only listing here that writes its UK prices in the description: "£9.99/month, £49.99/year". The in-app list also shows £11.49 under "Monthly Subscription" and £74.99 under "Headspace Plus". Its website offers a 14 day trial on the annual plan and a 7 day trial on the monthly. It links to student and family plans, but those prices did not load for us.

MindShift CBT. Free, with no in-app purchases at all. Its listing says "No subscriptions, no hidden costs."

NOCD. The app has no in-app purchases. The listing invites you to book a free phone call with its care team. Its paid service is priced outside the app, so check current pricing with NOCD directly.

Rootd. Monthly £6.99, yearly £45.99, the cheapest monthly on the list. The listing also shows yearly entries at £44.99 and £59.99, discount entries at £29.99 and £34.99, and a 6 month plan at £34.99. It offers lifetime access for a one-time payment too, but that price is not among the ten shown.

Wysa. The UK in-app list labels Premium Monthly at £8.99 and Premium Annual at £58.99. The written description on the same UK listing still quotes US dollars: Premium at $99.99 a year and Premium Plus, with a coach, at $99.99 a month. Coach plans in pounds run £14.49 a week, £45.99 a month or £89.99 a quarter.

    What to watch for

    • A trial that rolls into the annual price. Headspace's site says that after the free trial the annual subscription "automatically renews each year." Start the 14 day annual trial and the full year's price is what lands on day 15, not a month's. Pick the monthly trial if you only want to try it.
    • The 24 hour rule. Calm, Headspace, Rootd, Wysa and Conquer Fear all state that an App Store subscription renews unless you turn auto-renew off at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancelling on the last day of a trial can be too late.
    • Prices with no label. Calm, Finch and Bearable each show ten prices with no period. If you cannot tell from the store what you are agreeing to, read the purchase sheet carefully before you confirm.
    • More than one price for the same plan. Headspace monthly at £9.99 and £11.49. Rootd yearly at £44.99, £45.99 and £59.99. Dare annual at £58.99 and £59.99. The price you are offered may not match a review, or a friend's.
    • Dollars on a UK page. Wysa's UK description, Bearable's website and Breathwrk's website all quote US dollars. The pound price is the one in the App Store purchase sheet.
    • Savings claims that do not match the sum. Breathwrk's site says the annual plan will "Save $75 / year". On its own two prices the difference is $59: $9.00 × 12 is $108, less $49.
    • A monthly plan you have to wait for. Calm's in-app trial always starts you on the annual plan. To get monthly in the app you start the trial, cancel it, and wait seven days. If you want to pay monthly, cancel before the trial ends, or the year's £49.99 is what you are charged.
    • Lifetime options. Rootd sells lifetime access for one payment, and Calm for Life is £499.99, ten times the annual plan. If you expect to use an app for years, compare that price with two or three years of the annual plan before you subscribe.
    • Coaching tiers are a different price band. Wysa's coach plans and Conquer Fear's Accountability tier cost several times the standard plan. Make sure the tier you pick is the one you meant.

    Not on the list

Sanvello came up in our research but did not appear in UK or US App Store search results when we checked on 19 October 2026, so it has no row. Insight Timer is mainly a meditation library rather than an anxiety or mood app, and its UK listing also leaves the period off its "Insight Premium Meditation" prices.

    How we checked

Every UK price, in-app purchase name and update date was read from each app's UK App Store listing on 19 October 2026. Where the in-app purchase list did not label a period, we cross-checked the developer's own site. For Calm, Finch and Bearable that was the only way to tell the plans apart, so their rows come from their own pricing pages, read on 24 October 2026. Bearable only publishes US prices, so its row is in dollars. Trial lengths come from the listing where it states one, and otherwise from the developer's site, as noted in the table. We did not buy any of these subscriptions. Every listing we checked showed at most ten in-app prices, so an app may sell plans that are not visible here.

We build Conquer Fear, one of the rows. It is not ranked; the table is in alphabetical order and no column favours it. Prices change often. If one of these is wrong, tell us and we will correct it.
