Best apps for phone call anxiety (2026)
The best app for phone call anxiety depends on what stops you. If you go blank because you do not know what the other person will say, murmur and Practice Round let you rehearse the exact call with an AI voice first. If you can rehearse fine but still do not dial, Conquer Fear (ours), PebbleStep and MindShift CBT get you making real calls in small steps. Tonen keeps an opening line and useful phrases to hand during the call itself.
What we found first
On 25 October 2026 we searched the UK App Store for "phone call anxiety" and read the top 25 results. Only one is built to help you practise calls. The rest are second phone number apps, call recorders, caller ID and call blockers. Two are "fake call" apps, which make your phone ring with a pretend call. One of them sells itself as a way out of a situation you want to leave: "the fake call app that gets you out". Another result is an AI app that makes the call for you.
The apps actually built for phone anxiety, like murmur and KallyConfidence, did not appear in those 25 at all.
The second thing we found is a gap in the apps themselves. Every AI rehearsal app we checked stops at rehearsal. Going by their listings, none of them sets you a real call to make afterwards or makes the next real call slightly harder. KallyConfidence is the only one with a journal for real calls, and that is for noting calls you made anyway. Rehearsal helps with the "what will they say" part. But phone anxiety is mostly kept going by letting calls ring out and booking online instead, and only real calls change that. So we think most people want one of each: a rehearsal app and a real-call ladder.
What each app has you do
Rehearse. You talk to an AI voice, or record yourself answering a simulated call, before the real one.
Make real calls. The app gives you a small real call to make, like ringing a shop to ask the closing time, then a slightly harder one.
Keep words to hand. Scripts and phrases you can read while you are on the call.

The ranking
Ranked for someone who avoids phone calls now and wants to make them without dreading it. Prices, ratings and update dates are from each app's UK App Store listing, checked 25 October 2026. "UK ratings" is the number of ratings on the UK store. Nearly every app built for this is new, so most have almost none.

What each one actually does
1. murmur is the closest thing to an app built only for this. You pick a call, such as booking an appointment, ringing a landlord, chasing a job application or a refund, and talk it through out loud with an AI that talks back. It has 40+ scenarios and three difficulty levels, and you can write your own scenario, which is the useful part: you can rehearse the exact call you are dreading. After each call you get notes on what worked. The listing says your voice is not recorded or stored. It was updated the day before we checked. It had one UK rating, and it stops at rehearsal.
2. Conquer Fear is ours. You name a goal and the fear in the way, for example "ring the dentist to book" and "going blank on the phone". It writes a ladder of small real-world steps up to that call, generated for you rather than picked from a fixed list, and shows you one at a time. You rate your fear 0 to 10 before and after each attempt and log it as completed, partial or not completed, so a call you dialled and hung up on still counts. If a step looks too big, tap "Make it smaller" and it splits it. There is a help chat for when you are stuck. The free tier gives you one ladder, its first three steps, 20 logged attempts and three help chats. Premium is £9.99 a month or £49.99 a year, with a 7 day free trial on the annual plan only. An optional Premium + Coaching plan adds accountability calls with a real person at £49.99 a month, the founding price, which is why the listing also shows £149.99, the standard price it replaces. It has no AI to rehearse with and no scripts, it is iOS only, and it had one UK rating.
3. Tonen is for the call itself. Its Phone Call Mode lets you prepare an opening line and keep useful phrases on screen while you talk, and the listing says phone preparation works offline and nothing you type into it is saved. Phone Call Mode is on Premium. It was built in the UK by neurodivergent creators, mainly for autistic and ADHD people and people with social anxiety. It does not plan which calls to make.
4. Practice Round is AI rehearsal with a bit more pushback. You set up a scenario, such as an interview, a salary talk, a landlord problem or a call to a doctor's surgery, choose the tone and pressure level, and the AI stays in character. You get short feedback afterwards. It is a good second step once murmur's calls feel easy. It had no UK ratings yet, and the free tier is a single short call.
5. PebbleStep has phone calls among its 40+ social challenges, each rated 1 to 7 for difficulty, with your anxiety logged before and after. You can add your own challenges, so you can build a short list of calls. It is free, keeps everything on your phone, and had no UK ratings. Phone calls are one small part of it.
6. MindShift CBT is free with nothing to buy and has been on the store since 2013. Its fear ladder is blank: you write each call into it yourself. Good if you already know your steps, or you are on Android.
7. ChatGPT is not built for this, but its voice mode lets you ask it to play a GP receptionist or a delivery company and talk it through. It is free to try. It is far more forgiving than a real call centre, so do not let it be the only practice. We could not confirm on OpenAI's site how much voice use the free plan includes.
8. Fake Call Practice & Training has the most UK ratings of any app here built for calls, by a long way. Despite the name, its listing describes a practice tool: a simulated incoming call, a recording of your answer to replay, and daily goals for number of calls or speaking time. There is no AI on the other end, so you are answering prompts rather than having a conversation.
9. Call Simulator-Speech Practice simulates phone call scenarios for practice, with a VIP subscription. Its listing says very little about what the scenarios are. It has thousands of UK ratings, but its last update was in December 2025.
10. KallyConfidence has the most game-like structure of the rehearsal apps: 12 levels, daily quests, XP and a journal for real calls. Its listing says it is "trusted by thousands" and quotes two users, but it had no UK ratings when we checked, and it has not been updated since three days after it launched in January 2026. We would wait for an update before paying £14.99 a month.
Turned up in our search but did not make the table: AutoDial (an AI that places the call for you, at US$0.50 a minute; useful if you need a call made today, but it does the part you are trying to practise), the fake call escape apps such as Introscape, and Gleam, Orai and Speeko (conversation and speaking apps that are not about phone calls).
Which one is right for you
- You go blank because you cannot predict what they will say. murmur, then Practice Round once it feels easy. ChatGPT voice mode if you want to try it free.
- You want something on screen during the call. Tonen.
- You can rehearse fine but still do not dial. Conquer Fear if you want the steps worked out from your goal. PebbleStep or MindShift CBT if you want free and are happy to write the calls yourself.
- You need a call made today and cannot face it. Ask someone you trust, or use AutoDial, but use it as a one-off and not the plan.
- It is costing you appointments, money or work, or it comes with panic. Talk to your GP. If ringing the surgery is the blocker, ask at reception or check whether your practice takes requests online. The NHS page on social anxiety says you can also refer yourself to NHS support without a GP referral.
For a written step-by-step plan without an app, our guide to phone call anxiety has a ladder of calls from voicemail upwards.
Where we are not the answer
We build Conquer Fear, so weigh everything above with that in mind.
If your problem is not knowing what to say, murmur and Practice Round do something we do not: they let you hear the other side before the real call. We have no scripts, so Tonen is better for the moment itself. We are iOS only, we need a connection, and we had one UK rating when we checked.
The case for us is narrower. You type the call you keep avoiding and where you are now, and you get a ladder of real calls written for that, small enough that you will make the next one. You can see an example on our phone calls page, and Conquer Fear is on the App Store.
How we checked
Prices, ratings, developers and update dates come from each app's UK App Store listing and Apple's public lookup for the UK store, read on 25 October 2026. Android availability comes from Google Play, checked the same day; where we did not find an Android listing we say iOS only. Feature descriptions come from each app's own listing. The search counts come from Apple's search for the UK store on 25 October 2026, and search order changes from day to day. We did not install the competing apps for this article and are not judging whether any of them works. Several apps list many prices, so check before you buy. The ranking is our judgement for someone starting from avoidance, not a score. If anything is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
